Great places to take a bike close to PL21 Ivybridge, TQ10 South Brent, PL8 area across South Hams and Dartmoor.



Local Cycling Trails



Dartmoor and South Devon is a great place to cycle with an extensive network of quiet lanes and designated cycle routes and tracks, several National Cycle Network (NCN) signed routes, together with over 350km of bridleways and byways providing great access to the countryside. However, be aware, cycling on the open moorland or common land is not permitted unless on a designated bridleway or a designated route.

A 21 mile cycling and walking route linking Tavistock with Plymouth, using part of thw the National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 27, Devon coast to coast. The route runs along the western edge of Dartmoor.

Plym Bridge Trail

Start Point: Plymbridge Road, PL7 4SR


The Plymbridge Woods family cycle trail. It runs alongs the trackbed of a disused railway line through oak woodland, with the River Plym on the side for part of the ride. Largely a flat well surfaced track so it's a nice safe ride for children or for anyone looking for an easy introduction to cycling. Passing a series of viaducts, a disused railway station and bridges over the river., it follows the Great Western Railway track north passing Cann Wood and Bickleigh Vale before finishing at Dewerstone Woods. Suitable for cyclists and walkers.

Dartmoor Route 274

Route 274 is a great ride through Dartmoor, starting south of Yelverton and finishing at Peter Tavy, where it links with Route 27.

​The Dartmoor Way is a 95 mile-long circular cycling route around the National Park linking hamlets, villages and towns, with an additional 27 mile High Moorland link which crossing Dartmoor.

Cann Woods

Cann Wood trails is on Foresty Commission land, but still offers some trail variety. Can be extremely muddy in places during the winter. Loads of downhill trails, twisting and turning through the trees, quite a few jumps and some berms being built up by local riders.

Wray Valley Trail



10 miles


10 mile mainly traffic-free route from Bovey Tracey to Moretonhampstead, following the dismantled railway line through the National Trust Parke Estate and the village of Lustleigh.

The Puffing Billy Track



8.5 miles


Start Point: Near Red Pod Studios, Old Clay Factory, PL21 0EZ. 1.5 miles from Ivybridge on the B3213, look out for a factory chimney. Take a left turn immediately after you pass the factory and follow this unmarked lane to the top of the hill. The lane is a dead end with limited parking spaces at the top.


Climbing uphill gradually to 1200 feet, then downhill al the way back. The path is fairly level becoming part of Two Moors Way walking route. See also Information and further information.
